A Week in the Life - Monday recap

Today I embarked on documenting a week in the life of our family. I know this week will include highs and lows. I also know that this week include regular things like prepping meals, working, dropping Max off and picking him up, bath time, and down time. A week that will include the regular stuff of life and little surprises along the way. I'm hoping to capture a week of our life - as it exists right now. While I'm certain I will annoy everyone with all my pictures (and maybe these blog posts?) - I know that the end product will be totally worth it.

This is my fifth year participating in this project and it's so completely amazing to see how our lives have evolved - that alone makes it worth the hassle to me. I'm also using the blog as a place to document some of the stories to go along with the photos so when I actually construct the album I have something to refer back to.

Here is our Monday.

f

The morning began a little before 6AM with us hearing Max on the monitor. He likes
to say "I'm ready to get up now". We both ignored it and miraculously he went back to sleep
until almost 7.  In that time, Rob managed to shower and leave (at 6:40 always). When he
sounded again - I picked him up from this bed and took him downstairs.

I usually get him settled with some breakfast and I-pad. Then I head upstairs
and make the bed, shower, and get dressed. I don't love the fact that he watches
the I-pad, but I do need to keep him occupied while I run around. I know that I
could do a lot of this at night (i.e. make my lunch, set out my clothes etc.)...but I never do.
Max is also having leftover donuts this morning for breakfast.  Again, not the healthiest,
but he saw the box on the counter this morning and I just didn't want to deal with a
meltdown over donuts at 7AM. I tried to off set this with some yogurt and apples.

Once dressed and out of the shower, I have to re-straighten my bangs.
I'm going on day four of my blow out. I honestly wish I could afford
to get a blow out every week. My hair holds the shape and product so well...
and it makes my mornings so much easier.

As I come down the stairs...I have to capture the fort on the table
and the train track too.  Life with a little boy I suppose. You might also
notice my mother's day present - the fiddle leaf fig in the corner.
I'm hoping I can keep it alive a little longer this year.

It's unusual for me to sit and have coffee at the island with
Max, but I manage to do so today because we have a preschool
walk through scheduled at 9:30. It' so, SO nice to not have to
rush around this morning.

Our slow morning leaves time for a new floor puzzle.
Max is loving puzzles these days. I'm also proud of the fact
that I was able to convince Max to put on play clothes (as opposed
to pajamas) with only a little cajoling.

We brush our teeth together.

We meet Papa Rob at 9:30 at Smokey Row Children's center. This is
really the only center we have considered sending Max too.  We are thinking
of sending him two full days a week. But, I'm also waffling- considering
holding off for another year and then sending him full time.  Overall we were
super pleased with our visit.  We liked the large muscle room, low teacher turn
over, and huge playgrounds outside. Max loved the "kiddie" door and he ran around
with all the kids outside (which actually made him seem small by comparison).

After dropping Max off at Jessi's house - I stop at Starbucks
for a second cup of coffee.  I go with an Iced Skinny, Vanilla Latte.

Once at work - I have to rush around and clean/feed out our
classroom animals...
I also have to set up the classroom with new toys, lesson
materials, books, art materials, and sensory bins.
I eat lunch at my desk (which is actually unusual) - and quickly letter
some statements for our visioning meeting later in the afternoon.
While eating, I receive the above picture of Max from our babysitter.
She took the kids to the park and said Max was loving watching the trains.
From 1PM-5 PM I sit in on our department's midpoint check in
with the Life Long Learning group. We've been working with them since
early March to help give our department a new vision and plan for the future.
It's exciting and scary - all at the same time.
Small group sessions.

I'm late arriving home from work.  Thankfully Rob has dinner
almost totally prepared. Tonight's menu is rotini pasta.
Max practically gets tunnel vision when I arrive home.  He wants
all of my attention.  I ask him if he wants to go outside - he does.
and I'm surprised to see him putting on his shoes all by himself.
He could do this with his old shoes (New Balance) but got Paw Patrol
shoes for his birthday and I had yet to see him attempt this on his own.
Max has two squirt bottles that he likes to take outside - so we
spray the lettuce first.  But, looking at my plants (something I do
frequently) - I notice that they could use some water. Max helps me
get the hose out and proceeds to "water the mulch". He eventually
soaks his shoes, pants, and shirt and strips down to his underwear.
Max decides we should all sit at "his picnic table" for dinner.
He eats all the pasta and most of the strawberries. He got up
twice - the first time to help me get the wipes and the second
time to help Rob get the water.

Always popsicles after dinner. Strawberry for me.
Orange for Max.

Our cat Pecan loves to sit and watch us outside the screen.
She also always gets her claws stuck in the screen door.
We play in the sand box, do some coloring with markers,
and then Max says "I think I want to go upstairs". So, up we go.
We read a story called "Flashlight" while Papa Rob cleans
up the downstairs. Max is elated to have "new bath colors".
He picks two - and assures me he won't drop any on the floor.
(which happened last night). He has new tubes that suction cup
to the tile - and he loves to pour the water in them.
A couple more bedtime stories with daddy - while mommy
straightens up a bit...then he wants to roll on his oils.
He likes to roll them on us and then he lets us roll them on
him. We were using a cough roller last week but switched to a
sleep roller tonight.  After a few more stories (Maisy Goes to the City
and Maisy Takes a Vacation) - I tuck him in. Rob goes back not long
after for one more story.  He's out tonight around 8:00.
Once Max is asleep - Rob and I can usually be found
sprawled out on the couches....scrolling on our phones,
and watching TV. Rob heads upstairs around 9:00 and I stay
downstairs and have some tea and blog :)

xoxo
