Because I know your January wouldn't be complete without
a little New Year's Eve recap...here we go!
I mean, we did more than just SnapChat...
we actually left the house too. We took our party of three
down to my friend Lynn's house. Things you should
know about Lynn include: 1.) I've known her for
more than half my life now because we became friends
in high school! 2.) She has two boys - one is just a tad
older than Max and the other just turned four months old
3.) She's married to Tom 4.) She bought "2017" glasses
for the party just because she knows I love them.
That's true friendship guys. 5.) She's quick with a text and
email and remembers Rob and I's anniversary.
Awhile back I had emailed her an article about
the "un-dinner party" - which essentially means
to embrace the mess of your house/life/work situation
and still be open to inviting people over.
I'm always hesitant to invite friends over because
my toilets might not be clean, or what will I cook
(it's cool if I just heat up a frozen pizza, right?), or
maybe Max will decide he doesn't want to share or
whatever, whatever. But - this article states that you
should push past all that because your true friends
don't care and the end result is just a fun time.
Lynn and I both agreed we should try to make
"un-dinner parties" happen more often ...and so,
I was delighted to receive her text with an
invitation to hang out on New Year's Eve!
Max was his usual shy self at first, but before
long - him and Will were running all over the place!
I brought balloons - which were a hit for quite some
time and then they eventually moved on to party
hats and blowers! Even Jacob got into the fun
with his ever so stylish tiny top hat. What a good sport!
There were snacks, dinner (pizza!), sparkling
juice, brownies, and even Christmas popcorn!
Max hit that juice pretty hard before the night was over.
Max hit that juice pretty hard before the night was over.
Will was a great hostess - inviting us up to his
attic play room...and even into his bedroom
so him and Max could pretend their was
a "monster" and run out!
The boys also indulged in a lights out dance party...
complete with glow stick bracelets turned necklaces.
DJ Tom spun tunes from his trusty I-phone and
admittedly, the playlist was pretty lit. There was
"everything is awesome", "happy", some Taylor
Swift, and even Shakira!
A tiny pause in this tale to bring you this picture
of my handsome husband and Baby Jacob (Max
called him this all night). Jacob was such a great
sport all night...not even phased by the crazy boys
running around him, the rave in his living room, or
the tiny top hat! Max ran over several times
during the dance party to say "hi, baby Jacob
and give him a soft pat". It was so cute!!
Netflix did us a solid and had the King Julian kiddie
countdown (for the second year in a row!) And, when
it became clear that the party had run it's course
(cue: meltdown over glow sticks from my child) - we
programmed that bad boy, got the jammies on,
and had ourselves a countdown at 9:00 PM :)
I feel so fortunate that one of my nearest
and dearest friends lives right here in Columbus...
and with a little guy so close in age to my own.
Dotson family - we love you so much...
can't wait to adventure more with you in 2017!!
Happy New Year!
xoxo
