Since we've been celebrating our Christmas(es) in Dayton -
we three Haucks have landed on celebrating our own family
holiday on December 23. I've heard some families call this
day "Christmas Adam" since the following day is
Christmas Eve. That is what we were going to do this year
as well - but Max was super tired and we opted instead
to open them the following morning.
I have to say, the whole holiday season we've had several
presents under our tree from Max's grandparents in
Arizona. He was so chill about them. He was interested
in reading the names (mainly his own) and counting how
many were for him....but never really
asked to open them. I couldn't believe it.
However, when we told him it was go time - he
was all in. Man, can kids rip through presents!
And, he was totally convinced that package above
in the blue wrapping paper was a pillow (which had my
insides rolling with laughter). It wasn't. It ended up being
some clothes. And while he agreed they were
nice and cozy - he wanted to move on from
those pretty quick :)
Rob took Max one Saturday morning to do some
"errands". I knew they went to a paint your own
pottery shop. Max waited probably a whole hour
before breaking down and telling me that in fact
he had painted me a "green mug". I loved
that he wrote the tag to my present though :)
I just love when kids are learning to write and
their letters are all huge and adorable. Gah!
I was also gifted my own Patagonia fleece
pullover...face cream from Young Living...
and a space heater that looks like a fire place!!
Even though I told Rob I wanted the space
heater...it was a true surprise because I didn't
even know Rob knew how to online shop!
Papa Rob got some sweet new work out clothes...
(can you sense that I really want him to continue
with his yoga practice?) - and a travel case for all
his cords and chargers. This may seem like a lame
gift - but trust me when I say it was very necessary.
Max got a new book (called Max and Talulah which
is about two zebras in love), Duplo legos,
a track for his large collection of Mini Trains,
and a few games we can play as a family.
His favorites seems to be
"Hungry Hungry Hippos" and Zingo.
Max was very cute the whole morning...as well as,
insistent on "one more gift". This was really the
first Christmas that I think he was pretty with it -
as far as - giving and receiving gifts.
We managed to bust open nearly every gift....
get in a few rounds of Hungry Hippos and Zingo...
and play with the Thomas Mini Track...before
hitting the road to Dayton.
Well, there you have it - our Christmas holiday
all blogged wrapped up. I know it sounds super cheesy
to say, but Christmas with kid(s) is the best.
I loved thinking about what would really
make him smile on Christmas morning, wrapping
the gifts in "special" paper, cozy jams,
seeing his face upon realizing that Santa
did deliver the Magic Tracks,
and gobbling up all those Santa treats.
This pretty much sums it up for me:
"Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories
and love of kindred, and we are all better througout
the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime."
