January happenings

So, that blog post title is just a fancy way of saying -
big old cell phone photo dump. I have so many
photos of the last two weeks...so here you go
dear readers - this is what has been going on.
Max learned about teeth at school.  They did everything
from practice brushing, to sorting what food items would
be good and bad for your teeth.  He even busted
out the word "plaque" and "crown" - to which
Rob and I were super impressed. I was forever
grateful to his teacher for doing this - because
Max also had his first dentist appointment.
And, I feel like as a parent, you walk a fine line
between over preparing for the dentist and under
preparing - like....it's not really that fun, but you
should definitely go and not throw a fit, dear son.
Anywho - he actually did really well! No cavities!
Mama has been doing another 24 day challenge
with Advocare and I guess Max had seen me
use these blender bottles one too many times.
And, I made it look fun or something?
Because he was begging to use one too. :)
So...that's how his milk was served.  haha!
We've still been playing lots of games -
especially Zingo! (A lot like Bingo with a twist!)
Had supper club with my best gals...it was a small
but mighty group this month. We tried out
a place in New Albany called Firefly Bistro.
I definitely plan on going back from one-or
a dozen pizza rolls now that I'm not cleansing.
One Saturday morning we did a Roll A Snowman
activity.  This was a super easy Pinterest activity -
just pulled a dice from a different game and off we went.
Basically, each number you roll corresponds to a
part you need to draw on the snowman.
This same Saturday we built lots of towers with
blocks. We've had these blocks a long time...but
I put them in the basement over the last year.
Turns out when your kid hasn't seen a toy
in awhile - they get excited to see it!
This bought us like an hour of time on
a cold Saturday morning...so I was pretty
happy about that.
Max has lots of little toy people - from
Legos, to Paw Patrol, and Peppa Pig -
they all made appearances in our tower too.

January weekends have a habit of stretching
on and on....so same weekend - later in the day...
included a trip to Costco and stop at the play place
in Polaris mall.  Max played, Papa supervised, and
Mama made some returns. Win win.
We made delicious (cleanse friendly) muffins too!
Does this weekend ever end?? haha!
Later in the evening....we packed it up and
went to Titi's house ....played a few rounds of
Candyland, drank some sparkling water, and
loved on Penny!
On Sunday - my bird watching buddy from the Zoo,
David and I went to a local park in search
of a Great Horned Owl!  Believe or not -
we found it pretty quick! And were elated!
This Owl was obviously well fed - super plump
and adorable! Must be lots of mice in that park...
Back for lunch with my best dudes...and
Papa Rob headed off to see Rogue One.
I decided this alone time with Max was the perfect
time for teaching him the valuable lesson of
doing household chores.
We did laundry.....
Washed the dishes in the sink....
And mopped the kitchen floor.
He thought all of these chores were
remarkably fun.  I felt like super mom.
I suggested a walk with Titi and Penny
at Hoover Reservoir...and it was fun!
Max did great walking along the path...
all the way down to the creek.
He was rewarded with plenty of time
to throw rocks (and all the other things he
could find) in the water.
Last week, our day care provider was sick
(which is a super rare occurrence) ...so we made
get well cards for her and Grandma Sugar!
Max was super pumped to use alllllllll
the band aids...of which we have like ten boxes.
We got tons of couch snuggles in...and probably
more tv time than I'd like to admit.
I also took some time to write out some of my
best pals on my Charley Harper stationary.
The same (sick, but not us) day - we still had to go to the Zoo
and take care of our classroom animals (which Max
loves to do) - and then decided to spend some time walking
around as well. This ended up being a very sad
day as our beloved gorilla Colo had passed away.
Played (inside) at the Polar Outpost...and had
the whole place to ourselves.
It ended up getting so warm in the afternoon...that
we took the John Deere out for a spin!
Last Thursday, my friend Kellie and I signed up
to feed the giraffes up at the Heart of Africa barn.
They need some assistance with this because they
want the giraffes to continue to be friendly around
people .... and ultimately, so fun!  We went through
a huge bucket of lettuce in 15 minutes with just two
giraffes!
This past weekend was also pretty great in the
weather department - so we got to go to
one of our favorite parks in Westerville!
It has everything - music, big slides, a huge
spider web thing, and even a train!
Papa Rob was still cleaning up the garage....so
we practiced our balance bike moves...
did our second Koala Crate box....
the theme was rainbows!
This three month subscription was a Christmas
gift and has been so perfect for our little art lover.
We made a stained glass sun catcher to begin with....
and then moved on to a tote bag!
The water transfers the color from the tissue
paper to the canvas bag....dries over night
and then we added the cutest cloud
stickers in the morning!
Sunday - we visited our beloved Hard Road
park....and enjoyed the sunshine and slides!
Our beloved Papa - STILL working on the garage...
he's very detail oriented in this space....
Moved on to...side walk chalk!

Rounded out the weekend with Hungry, Hungry Hippos!
Alright - if you made it through this post - I owe
you big time! And - believe it or not - i left
things out - a traumatic hair cut, the protein bars
we made, a trip to Costco, Papa Rob shaving
his beard ...gosh, isn't my
life sounding so glamorous? ha!
Don't answer that.
But, do have a happy weekend!

11 Things About Max on the 11th

Three and half years old - has had lots of challenging
moments...but, developmentally - has been the most
fun of all. Max understands joking (sort of), is with it
enough to play simple games, and brutally honest.
Case in point.  Last week, I asked him if he was a good
boy for Mims and Granpda.  He said "yes". Then, I asked,
"Did you throw any fits" - to which he pondered and then
replied very seriously "yes, but it was just a small one mommy". haha!

here are some other funny bits about Max:

1.)      His frame of reference for any story, comment, or anecdote
and when it occurred is always, “yesterday”!

(fun at Polaris Mall)
2.)    He got slippers for Christmas and loves to wear them to bed.
If he’s not wearing those, he is likely wearing his footey pajamas

(loves his coloring book)

3.)    He is obsessed with all things cozy/soft/cuddly –
that includes all soft pants (like sweats), his reindeer blanket,
all couch blankets, and flannel sheets

4.)    When he’s trying to stall bedtime – he asks you to
change his pillow case, brush his teeth,
or sing him a song (usually Rudolph)

(on a walk with Mims and Mama)

5.)    His favorite snack is a banana sliced and topped
with mini chocolate chips.  He also loves
all forms of lunch meat and applesauce.
He would eat applesauce by the gallons if we let him.

(on a trip to the Zoo with Daddy)

6.)    His current favorite book is “Bunny Slopes”.

7.)    Lately, he’s been taking lots of showers at night.
Our shower head is detachable so we can stand
and monitor what’s happening in there while
holding the shower head a bit lower for him.
He’s also working on washing all his
body parts while in the shower.

(wanted his milk with a blender ball ...like Mama)

8.)    He licks his lips constantly and thus
has the tell tale red ring both above
and below his lips. He won’t let me come
anywhere near it with Vaseline though….
so I’m not sure how to help.

9.)    He loves to read “notes” – which is essentially me –
writing a sentence or two – and then him “reading”
the letters out loud to me. He is starting to
notice the lower case letters too – and gets
confused between the capital I and the lowercase l.

(coloring...our favorite weekend activity)

10.)  He loves arts and crafts.  If you are into
coloring, cutting paper, stickers, and glue....
Max is your biggest fan! His favorite
writing utensil is a Sharpie.

(mama filled up his spray bottle with colored water)

11.) We have been starting to play
lots of games with him (mostly because he
got them for Christmas). As you can imagine -
taking your turn, waiting, and then
not winning are hard. His current favorite
games are "Zingo", "Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel",
and a Peppa Pig Spinner game (which he only
likes to play a certain way).

It's my plan to continue this on the 11th of every month...
so stay tuned to get the update on Max!
