10 Things Right now

I had a good time writing out 10 things right now post a couple weeks ago...plus, it helps me remember some of the little things that are going on right now in our lives - so here we go again!

1.) Sometimes when Max gets out of the bath water and we towel dry his hair - it's not completely dry when his little head hits the sheets.  So...when we go get him in the morning - he has just a little curl happening in the front.  I thought maybe it was a weird coincedence the first time it happened - but now I think he might (eventually) have some curl to his hair!  This makes me so happy and I have decided to share it with you! :)  Feast your eyes on said curl below.
2.)  Max has been doing great in the high chair!  Hooray!  So far he has tried sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, and carrots in the vegetable category.  And for fruits - avacado (yes, it's a fruit!), bananas, pears, and applesauce.  All of this mixed in with several varieties of cereal -- rice, oatmeal, and mixed grains.  There hasn't been a food that passed through his lips that he didn't seem to like.  Although his school teacher mentioned he had a little bit of a rash on his chest this morning.  She asked if we had tried a new food and in fact we had!  Carrots :) She recommended holding off on them for a bit.  Sometimes all it takes is a couple weeks...so we will see.  They (meaning all the books, websites, blogs etc.) that I've read mention waiting three days (but no more than a week) before introducing a new food. Since Rob and I don't have a history of any food allergies I hadn't really been super strict about adhering to this rule...but maybe it's worth rethinking?
3.) When we started having some fall weather around here I took to Pinterest, cooking blogs, and the interwebs in general to dig up soup recipes.  Then, I deemed that every Sunday should be "Soup-er Sunday!"  In true Carrie form, I really hyped this up (in much the same way I hyped up Taco Tuesdays, and Breakfast for Dinner Thursdays)...and then it crashed and burned.  Well, sort of.  I've been able to follow through most weeks, but not always on Sundays.  Thus far, we have enjoyed Chicken Tortilla, Potato Corn Chowder, Chili, Chicken Noodle, and this week - Black Bean! I also like to get crazy and bake some corn bread too.  I know, I know...it's too much.  Just call me Martha Stewart.
(Rob approves!)

4.) Is it possible for the Hauck family to get out of Babies R' Us for less than $50?  The answer is no probably not.  Literally between the formula, diapers, etc. etc. - they really now how to get you to hand over the cash.
(would we give all the money in the world for this smile?  absolutely.)

5.) We are trying to use the sippy cup!  Turns out when you give your child "solid" foods (though...really they are more like thick purees) - you should offer them water....to help "move" things along if will...ahem.  Max has no problems getting the actual cup to his mouth - it's just the whole tilting it back thing.  I'm also torn between trying to get him use a sippy cup or just skip right to the straw?? And, if he doesn't like the first sippy cup...do you get another?  Or just stick with it until they get it?  It's honestly embarrassing the amount of research I've done on sippy cups at this point....
(this is Max's mean mug ....he's still considering the sippy here).

6.)  Max is working on sitting up!  It's pretty adorable.  But, (be still my mama heart) I fear this means movement (as in crawling) is probably not too far off.  Max's school teacher told me she thought so too.... we will see.

7.)  Every morning I check Max's mouth for teeth.  No pearly whites yet - just a whole lotta drool :)

8.)  Grandmim came to visit last Saturday and babysit so Rob and I could go to a wedding. Say what?! I know the Haucks got out of the nest. True story.  And, we feasted on steak, I had some wine, Rob had some beer, we tore up the dance floor (alright....for just one song)...but the BEST part?  PHOTOBOOTH!!  I would have gone in about 50 times...but I reigned it in and we only made it in 3.  Dearest Max, when you read this one day - please know you were certainly not forgotten...but you weren't necessarily missed either :)  We needed this!

9.)  Pre-baby I read a lot of chic lit...you know...light, fun reading.  I could bust one of those out in a night, really.  But now - I'm knee deep in Super Baby Foods.  You know...so I can raise my own little Super Hulk or SuperMan.  But - holy moly is it overwhelming.  She talks about this "baby porridge" which is made from ground brown rice, kelp, brewers yeast etc.  Then, you add a veggie from whatever food group in the morning.  It' seems simple (if not kind of yucky tasty) in theory...but in my mind, when the hell am I going to make all this?
10.) My afternoons are made brighter by pictures like these :)

Almost beach time!  Must go review my lists :)
xoxo
