Happy Easter!!

Do you ever have like 23 things on your to do list but
it all feels so overwhelming that you deliberately
waste time doing other stuff that probably
doesn't need to happen?  Nope? Me neither.
But.....here's an Easter post about two
weeks late because I'm avoiding
all of the other things that need to be done.
Also, I'm going to go above and beyond
the blogger call of duty and in lieu of adorable
Easter photos (all of which I loved from other families)
and post a few mediocre family Easter photos with
some details I remember from the weekend.
Our Easter weekend began on Saturday
with Rob and I driving over to Dayton
(Max was already there from his Spring
Break 2017 week-o-fun).   We left almost
immediately for an egg hunt at Forest Field
Park again.  In our rush to leave the house we left
his jacket behind..#parentfail....so Grandpa and Papa Rob
left to retrieve it and barely made it back
to see Max reluctantly pick up a few green
eggs.  He maintained that he already
had eggs at home..and honestly I think the
hyped up "competition" part of it was
stressing him out.

We were trying to kill some time
before this food truck rally at Home Depot....
so we went off to one of my favorite spots
in Dayton (especially in the spring!!)
Cox Arboretum....because
#plantladyforlife and it did not
disappoint...Max had fun counting
and point out turtles in the pond,
climbing the rocks, pointing out the
new bridge, and running between
the rows of crab apple trees :)

(Still trying to get the perfectly timed
jumping shot of everyone). :)

(Gotta stop and smell those lilacs!!)
Max was literally so excited every time
he spotted a turtle.

He was getting tired of walking...so
he settled for his favorite perch atop Papa Rob. :)
We ate lunch at this food truck rally thing
at the local Home Depot before heading
back home and getting down to the business
of dying Easter Eggs!

Initially, Max let us know he would just
be supervising this egg dying task...
but I knew that wouldn't last long.
As soon as the eggs came out and his
stool got pulled up to the counter...he
was bossing everyone around!

Even at 35 years old ....this tradition
never gets old.  I still LOVE it!!
And I love having all the extra
hard boiled eggs around after :)
Papa Rob is known for coming up with
super weird color patterns on his eggs...
Auntie Stacy left hers in a couple different
colors until she achieved the perfect "mauve"
and Max was definitely the splasher...plopping
the eggs in with reckless abandon. :)
Also - random but helpful tidbit from Mims -
she has kept literally what seems to be every
egg dipper and tool that we've used over the
years...and so we have lots of "equipment"
to dye our eggs with.  The "egg tongs" were
quite helpful for little hands.
The night ended with a trip to the park
and carry out pizza from Marions (yum!).
This worked out well for the Easter Bunny...
who had a lot of work to do! :)

*Somehow* the Easter Bunny
managed to cram too many a lot of
presents into a tiny Paw Patrol Easter
Basket (that Mims was coerced into
purchasing even though Mama gave
a hard no). The bunny hid the basket under
the desk at Mim's house.
(sidenote: Max asked me as he was
falling asleep if the Easter
bunny was a real bunny or pretend?
And I panicked and sort of glossed
over the details of that....)
Max was pleased with his spoils...
a new Paw patrol cup, bath tabs,
bubbles, band aids, a small set of Legos....
and it seemed the Easter Bunny had
a soft spot for books...*ahem*

He did mostly okay at church...except
for telling us 152 times that he was
"ready to go home" (insert eye roll).
So I ended up holding him for the last 20
minutes or so...which wasn't awesome
but it was manageable.

Our Easter Brunch was at the Station House
(which is part of St.Leonard's) -the pros being
someone else preparing the food and cleaning
the mess.  The cons being Mims got real pissed
when we got charged for orange juice and coffee
(which we though were part of the brunch
package)....but I didn't hate one bit of my
bacon, sausage, and omelet creation. :)
In fact, I ate it all.
The above is literally the only picture we got
of everyone in their Easter finest....because
we spent the rest of the day relaxing...eating
jelly beans (okay, that was just me) - and
making up "scavenger hunts" for Max.

Hope you had a Hoppy Happy Easter!
xoxo
p.s. my mom still had a small honey baked
ham for "second brunch" and it was delish
p.p.s. Max wore his new paw patrol jammies
on the ride home....passed out...but woke
up in time to demand more bedtime stories.
p.p.p.s. I forgot to take all the extra
hard boiled eggs (picture real sad Carrie face emoji here).
Alleluia to you and yours!

Spring Break - Preschool style

Last week our daycare provider was on
Spring Break with her children - so I lined
up a plan for Max to have a little Spring Break
fun of his own.  Everyone pitched in and it
ended up being a really fun week.

Monday was Titi's (and Penny's) day!
Max was super pumped to give Penny
the toys he's been saving for practically
a year.  Penny promptly ripped them to
shreds...
They also gave Penny a bath, picked violets in
the backyard, colored, had I-pad time...and were
off to the car wash - all before 10:00! haha!
Max would love nothing more than
to visit the car wash EVERY day - but
we usually limit this to once a week.  :)
They also visited the chicks at the library.
(When we were there the previous week,
there were five....but the librarian told
them there were only four because one
had already gone to the "farm"....like
does that mean it died?) I'm confused.
The true highlight of this library visit
for Max though was learning about a little
gem called a vending machine

There were multiple parks visited - and
lunch from the drive through at Wendy's...
eaten on the deck!

Day one culminated in some couch time
with the I-pad...and a very tired Max :)
Day 2 was his regularly scheduled ZooKids day....so
we made this a day with Mama.
Max asks me if it's a ZooKids day nearly everyday....
and was very pleased that we would be learning
about "farming" ...
Each ZooKid got to pick a farm animal to add
to "Old Jack Hanna's Farm" on the carpet....construct
their own barn and stamp the animals inside...
as well as get up close and personal with
the Kuhne Pigs and Mini Horse that live on Zoo grounds.
Wednesday was Papa Rob's day ...and
when I left in the morning they were playing
"Cut the Rope" on the I-pad.
Before long though - I got pictures of them
at "bounce club Powell" - which is like
an indoor trampoline park.
Along with all the trampolines...they have
a giant pit filled with foam blocks.
Max loves to slide into them or
run and jump into them!
There was a quick trip the Post Office
for stamps - and mailing of birthday
invitations....before heading home and
packing up for the drive to Dayton.
They arrived in Dayton just in time
for a nature walk...trip to feed the fish...
and dinner at Skyline!
We arranged for Thursday and Friday in Dayton
with the intent that mommy and daddy would drive up
early Saturday morning for all of the Easter
festivities...

Hanging out at Mim's and Grandpa's brought
filling all the bird feeders...dropping
peanuts for the squirrels and
carrots for the deer and rabbits...

watering of all the flowerbeds...
And a visit to Learning Tree farm to see
all the spring farm babies (so nice of them
to time this visit perfectly with our ZooKids theme)...

Mims reported the farm to be bustling
with activity...and lots of school groups.
At one point, they joined up with a school group
while the farm educator was talking about chickens.
According to Mim's, she encouraged the kids
to pick up the chickens and so Max was able to
pick up this white chicken. And basically,
now my whole life is made. And I'm begging
Papa Rob to install chicken coups.
Are we zoned for chickens? Probably not.
But, can you deny the love affair between
Max and the chickens?  No. The answer is no.
I really think we might have a
budding farmer on our hands.
He seems to be a total pro at tending
animals, driving tractors, and the like.
After lunch at McDonald's (all about that
happy meal toy) - they headed to another
Dayton favorite - Cox Arboretum...which
was in full bloom!
(^^ is that his senior photo??  where is my baby!?)
The real highlight was Friday - when this crazy
trio boarded the L&M Easter Train out of
Lebanon, Ohio.  They rode the train about 45 minutes
to an Easter Village....complete with Egg Hunt
and visit from the Easter Bunny himself.
Again, according to Mim's - you could stand outside
while the train was moving...but Max wasn't too keen
on that.  He was also a little worried about the egg
hung - but once there - was happy to pick up the eggs,
complain that his basket was getting heavy,
and eat all the Tootsie Rolls.

We had been preparing him for the possibility
of visiting with the Easter Bunny....
and while it clearly wasn't his favorite
(read: I'm fully expecting therapist
bills some day in the future) - I'm really
proud of him for going up there none the less.

Other highlights from the rest of his stay at
Mim's and Grandpa's included making
brownies...
another egg hunt at Poppy's house...
where Max was able to claim 25 cents
per egg ...for a total of $7.50

At one point Poppy tried to pass of a dime
in place of a quarter....but was Max not having
any part of that.  He said "That's a dime Poppy!".
Homeslice knows his change.
Also - I think the fish in their pond are quite
well fed at this point ...because Mim's freezer
has about four less loaves of bread.
Max likes to create a giant dough ball
from one piece of bread and chuck it all in
for the blind carp? catfish?  to eat.
What a fun week for Max!
xoxo
