With Papa Rob and I both working at the Zoo - we get some
pretty sweet perks (i.e. cheetahs walking by my office and baby
binturongs crawling across my back are those recently coming to
mind). One of the biggest summer time perks - is free admission
to Zoombeezi Bay (the water park affiliated with the Zoo).
Not only free admission for us - but we can always
get an additional ticket too. Hooray! So it seems
crazy that we waited until last Saturday to take advantage
of this! It was well worth the wait!
The only mistake I made was thinking that the waterpark
opened at 10 because it's actually 10:30 but honestly
we didn't have to wait for long. And being right on time
allowed us to get front row chairs by the Toddler
Tides area!
The water was a little chilly ....but I try not to let
on that I think it's cold...and so in we went -
and he tried all the slides and even went under the
giant mushroom (holding my hand)!
I thought this part of the park would be perfect for Max...but
as it turns out...he actually really likes the "lazy river"
and is tall enough for some of the other water slides
in Baboon Lagoon. I don't have a lot of pictures
of any of these events though - because I didn't want to
risk dropping my phone in the water.
We took several spins around the lazy river.
Max would wear his puddle jumper and float along
holding my hand - and then we got a tube!
The tube wasn't big enough for the both
of us, so I perched him on the side and
we motored around! He giggled the whole time!
There are no built in rest times at Zoombeezi - but
I mandated some rest/snack time anyway.
Hanging out in Baboon Lagoon was the real hit of
the morning! It has slides that are bit bigger and more
like a typical water slide. I was so proud of Max
for blazing through all the splashing water buckets
and listening to the life guards so well.
He probably rode this yellow water slide 25 times.
(suckered me into the huge icee...)
We also swam in the bigger pool together...I'm so
pleased with how confident he is in the water lately.
He loves to swim back and forth between people -
kicking his legs and paddling his arms.
All total we were there for about three hours -
which ended up being perfect because the rain
clouds were coming in. I did build in some time
to ride the dry rides in Jungle Jack's landing - behold!
His favorite ride is the "Frog Hopper" over there...
although the "Swinging Gibbons" might be a close
second. By the time we were ready to leave - the
slow sprinkle had turned into a full on downpour.
We had to seek shelter by the bumper cars for about
fifteen minutes and then made a mad dash to the car.
On the way back to the car, we discovered huge
puddles left behind by the rain. Max declared his
sandals to be "water shoes" and jumped in every single
one! It was so funny! His shoes then proceeded
to make little squishy sounds all the way back to the car.
As the saying goes, "the days are long, but the summer
days are longer". I think that's how it goes, right? ;)
But truly - it's so nice to be able break up the heat
and humidity by going to Zoombeezi.
Perhaps the biggest *perk* of our trip to Zoombeezi bay though?
Sweet, sweet car naps that turn into long
afternoon naps. I'm not mad about it. :)
