Girls Trip to Florida

I'm almost four years into this whole raising a child business -
and the one thing I know for certain - it's exhausting!
Don't get me wrong - it's also wonderful and I love pouring
myself into raising Max ....but sometimes Mama needs
a break.  I've known about this trip for months...and
leading up to it - I thought it would be no big deal to
leave Max for a few days....but the closer it got - the
more emotional I started to feel about it.
I ended up wrapping up a little book for him to
read each day with Papa Rob.  We also used our
wall calendar to talk about the number of
days I would be gone and that seemed to really
help him understand that it was more than just
 a couple of hours.

Anyway - my mom, sister, and I escaped
to our favorite place - Sanibel Island.
We flew in on a Saturday and I left on
Wednesday (Stacy and my mom stayed
until Saturday!)  We stayed up further on the Sanibel
side - which ended up being really great
for having all new kinds of experiences.

Here are a few pictures of our
days together....

Before heading over to Sanibel, we drove about
14 miles north and stopped at Lee County Manatee
Park.  This was a new to us experience - but we were
able to see lots of manatee noses pop out of the water.
Dinner our first night was at Traders - and I had the
most delicious Chilean Sea Bass of my life.
If you know me, you know I don't like fish -
but this was absolutely amazing. Truly.
Everyone asked me, "what did you do while
you were away....it looked a whole lot like ....
beach walking...sitting by the pool...and
generally just soaking up being alone.
Does that sound weird? Probably it does -
but when I'm home - I'm meeting the needs of our
house, our life, my favorite three year old....etc.
So, it was genuinely so nice, to sleep in,
and do nothing.

It was so interesting to be at the beach during
the "winter" season. The shell piles were all
together different (so many)...not to mention,
a huge storm had washed hundreds of
Florida conchs, sea stars, lightening whelk
egg cases, and more up on the shore....

We also went to Ding Darling for a drive through...
and found the beloved White Pelicans!
A huge flock of them had gathered at a sand bar...
and a lovely older gentleman let us borrow
his spotting scope to take a better look!

As mentioned - we ate at some new places too.
I convinced everyone to have lunch at
Schnapperhots - a hot dog joint. Chili dogs for all!
We had breakfast at a newer place - Bennett's that served
donuts and the most delicious strada EVER.
And, we had desert at the only fast food place
on island - Dairy Queen!
Can't forget - we also had a super bowl spread
from the local grocery store (Jerry's)...and yes,
that cookie cake was realllllll good.
Honestly -- this trip wonderful!
Thank you to my mom and Stacy
for inviting me....there's just not
a lot that a little sunshine, saltwater,
and sand between my toes can't cure!

XoXo
