11 Things:// April Edition

It seems I'm getting more and more late into the
month with these little updates...but still fun
to read some of the highlights this month :)
As usual....the pictures have nothing
to do with the words...but are pretty cute,
none the less!

1.)  Max is super into a "cooperative game" -
(meaning, you work together to win) called
Hoot Owl Hoot.  It's pretty cute observing
him and Rob trying to get all the baby owls
in the nest.

2.)   Saw his second movie ever,
"Lego Batman" with Mims and Grandpa
on a cold, rainy Friday

3.)  When we upgraded his
bedroom last year to accomodate
a "big boy bed" - we left the rocking
chair - and he still loves to be rocked
for a few minutes every night....
even though his legs extend wayyyyy
beyond the chair now.

4.)  When I have to work late or on a
Sunday evening for the Paint with
Penguins program - he's been very
into Facetiming with me so
he can see the penguins running
around (this happens while
the Zoo guests are on their tour).

5.) Decided on a Paw Patrol
birthday with five of his
closest friends :)

6.)  Loves to play a game
with Rob and I - called "tickle monster"
where one person chases the other two
around the dining room table before
getting caught by the tickle monster

7.) When he gets mad/angry - says,
"Well, I'm not going to be your friend" -  or,
"I'm going to mad at you everyday"...
which I have to think is something he
learned at daycare because it's certainly
not something Rob and I say.

8.)  Asks me at least five times a day
"What's a toot"?  My standard
response is "when air comes out
of your bottom".

9.)  When asked what his favorite
flower is - will tell you "wildflowers and tulips".

10.)  Favorite cereal is "Captain Crunch
with Berries".

11.)  LOVES milk!

BONUS:
12.) Your loose change is never safe around Max!
He loves to gather it up and carry it around
in plastic ziplock bags.  You've been warned!!

Never a dull moment around here...
that's for sure :)

Out Like a Lamb?

In like a lion....out like a lamb?
Is that the way the saying goes?
Well, whatever the saying, March is OVER!
And we are ready for spring!!
Life is chugging along... here's the
rest of March in a bliggity bloggy nutshell.

The whole weekend of St.Patty's was
a party.. from the parade, to
the Bon Jovi concert (I won
free tickets at work - which was
totally worth it because the people
watching alone was insane), and we
celebrated our friend Drew's birthday!
(Bon Jovi concert at Nationwide arena)
(Birthday boy at Winkling Lizard for his party!)

(We rarely make it out anymore...so we had
to commemorate this accomplishment :)

We love St.Patrick's day around here.
And we love parades (well, maybe
just me, Rob is sort of ehh about them.)
Either way, we were not missing
the Dublin Irish parade this year.
It was cold (like, run back to the
car for more blankets cold) - but
worth it to see our hometown
get turned up!  Dublin knows how
to party for sure.

You might think the parade tired us out...
but we still managed to pack in a trip
to our favorite plant nursery for
mommy's (not so new) obsession....
PLANT BABIES!
Towards the end of March, the
weather got really nice - like
we even saw the appearance of Max
and Papa Rob's legs in shorts! What?!
It also allowed for the return of
swinging, ZooKids, and new door art!

We can't talk about the month of March
without mentioning Grandpa's birthday!
We celebrated with dinner at Dewey's
Pizza...it was so yummy!
I also really appreciated the viewing
window where you can watch their
staff create the pizzas...throwing the
dough in the air and fistfuls of
flour at the kids!  Super fun!
We came back to our house after dinner
for butterscotch Pie (from Just Pies!) per
the birthday boy's request.

This past weekend we got of the house
for an event at Home Depot...building
a bunny box!

These (free, free, FREE!!) Home Depot classes are
such a win-win - Max LOVES them.
I wish you could all really see him
wielding the hammer (and then
Rob's face when it accidentally hits his
thumb). #priceless
Max also loves the free enamel pin
that you get with each class...we will surely
have an apron covered in them soon!
Hit up Tim Horton's for donut holes...all that
hammering and painting requires snacks :)
And coffee for Mama!
It was a little cool (in the morning) on Saturday...
so we stayed inside and created with
our wrench set. And, played his new game -
Jumpin' Jack! He loved the game so much -
he played several rounds by himself :)
And then ...it was on to the Honey Bee tree
game.  This game is such a pain in the *ss
to set up - but he's come a long way in
playing by the rules - so I guess that's
something?
 Warm Sunday weather means visiting
Scioto Park!  This park is such a gem - river
access, playground, and amphitheatre!
We were here for almost two hours -
and throwing rocks for a good hour.
Max kept saying, "you fill me up Mama!"
(which just means, find me more rocks) :)
Man, I was trying to so hard to get a good
picture of us both jumping in the air.
Max didn't really get my artistic vision....
and I could never get the timing just right.
But, here are some hilarious outtakes :)

I love this last one...but Max had already run past
the camera!
We rounded out Sunday by walking to
get pizza from our neighborhood joint...
Carlucci's....where in true three year old
fashion...Max whined "I only like the pizza
at Miss Jessi's house. Cool, cool, cool.
You do you, buddy. Imma eat this delicious pizza.

I leave you with this gratuitous selfie
from Max.  Homeslice still likes
his own mug the best.  And, he
likes to be holding the phone/camera
all on his own.  Like the independent almost
four year old he his.
If he can hold a camera, he can
certainly start wiping his own behind,
#amiright??
What a smug mug.
happy monday, yo!

Snaps and Cap(tions)

I won't be winning any awards for quickness or
efficiency when it comes to blogging.  In fact,
I realize that it's become more like the speed
of a molasses drip this winter.  And, as much
as I would love to dedicate an entire blog post
to each of these squares, i'm going to keep
it brief(ish).
we got a few really nice (no coat even!) days of
weather in January - so we hit up a new park around
the corner!  Max also started tumbling again
in late January - and they brought out the
big time equipment this time around...the bars!
we've been trying to keep up with the healthy
eating around here - which means stops at
Fresh Thyme for lunch meat. And finally,
we made it to one of our favorite winter time
spots - Franklin Park Conservatory for the last
weekend of their Orchid exhibit!

Stacy and I have been back at the gym ...which
also means we've been treating ourselves
to a little Panera afterward.  Some might argue
this defeats going to the gym in the first place -
but i think sister time (wherever it is) is worth it!
Speaking of treating yourself (which i fully
support) - I bought one of the Rae Dunn clay
Valentine's mugs which I've been enjoying my
nightly tea in. Finally - Max has been
enjoying games of all kinds since Christmas -
and wanted to play this Pop up Paw Patrol
game for like two hours straight one morning.

New silly towel from Target - they had me at cactus
and donuts. A smoothie treat from Costco because
he was getting hungry (and not pleased with the
samples that Saturday).  Another favorite wintertime
activity has become playing with Legos (this is
Rob's specialty). And soup for dinner is always
a good idea to me (this sausage tortellini soup
was ahhhhmazing!)

Max is back at ZooKids for the month of March!
Penguin painting is still on-going and just
as adorable as ever! And, Auntie Stacey hooked
me up with a discount code for some items
from Abercrombie that I have been eyeing.

Supper club with my favorite ladies - we tried a new
meatball place in Grandview called Palle (where
the motto is "our balls are better!")
I settled on chicken (meat)balls, with house
bbq sauce and house made (tater) tots.
They.were.AMAZING. Like, i'm still
thinking about them...and all the other
ball combinations i want to try.
I've also been reading up a storm.
I could not put down the Jodi Picoult
novel - gave me a lot to think about.
Also - zoom in on that quote my
fabulous friend Audrey sent me for
International Women's Day.  It's good.

Happy Monday!

11 Things// March Edition

Will I ever get these little updates posted on
the 11th again?  Probably not.
But, since you're here - you might
as well read about what our
little Macho Max has been up
to the last month(ish).

1.)  Max is obsessed with this app on our
iPad called "Cut the Rope".  We've started using
it as a reward (i.e. if he had good behavior
throughout the day at daycare). The app itself
is way above his cognition depending on the
level you're playing at - but Rob helps him.

2.) He constructed a rain gauge at the Home
Depot class for March - and I asked him if
he wanted to put it out to measure the snow
we were getting.  He looked at me so serious
and said, "it's a rain gauge mommy, not a
snow gauge". So, needless to say - we kept it
inside.

3.)  He loves to hold down the button
on my phone that is the shutter for the
camera.  So, I have lots of little bursts of
photos with like 56 photos of his little mug in each.
Is that a bad problem?
You tell me. :)

4.)  He has taken to decorating his
door with pictures that I can print out
for him on my home printer.  He goes
through my phone and tells me
exactly which ones he would like
printed.

5.)  Recently, we've been working on
having him wipe his own bottom.
It goes like this:
Me:  "Max, did the paper touch your crack?"
Max: " yesssssss"
Me:  "It doesn't look like you even tried
to wipe"
Max:  looking up innocently at me....
It's so frustrating!  He can totally do it
by himself but would prefer me to
continue wiping.  ugh!

6.)  His new favorite spot to eat lunch
is Taco Bell.  He gets a cheese quesdilla
and loves to eat the tortilla chips too.

7.)  He can rhyme words really well!
Recently, he came home with a worksheet
from school that he cut and matched the
rhyming words too.  I was impressed
because it's not really something I ever
thought to teach him.

8.)  The night of the Oscars, he spent
the night with my sister and parents
and got to watch his second movie -
"Trolls".  He came home the next
day and told me there was a troll
he tooted and glitter came out.

9.)  My sister also got him a book
about a month or so ago, called "Meet
Tracker" (from Paw Patrol).  He loved it -
and insisted we bring it home (instead
of keeping it at her house).  It's called a
"Step 1 Easy Reader".  Since that time we've
expanded our collection to a few other
easy readers with the Paw Patrol pups,
Thomas, Blaze, and Dory. I think he just
loves getting a glittery sticker at the end
(they come attached to the book).

10.)  He loves to listen to the magic
school bus theme song on you tube.
(like 25 times in a row).

11.)  He's super into rainbows....drawing
them on his easel, constructing a rainbow truck with
his legos, and drawing them on cards.

12.) Loves to sing while in his bed at
night (when he should be sleeping!!)

13.)  Just like his daddy - loves to
have his back scratched!!

As always, I'm so happy to have these
little snippets of life around the Hauck's nest
preserved.  Also someday he will
reliably wipe his own behind, right?!
xoxo
