Last Monday was a very big day for Macho Max...
he had his first day of pre-school! He will be attending
a new school - called "Smokey Row Childcare Center"
and he will be there all day. (Though - keep in mind,
he's been in Daycare since he was almost three months
old, so in many ways, it was the same old thing).
We had been talking up "pre-school" pretty much
all year. And, it's just around the corner from our house...
so we see it all the time. He knew he would be
going without us, getting a new teacher, new
schedule, and taking his lunch. For some reason,
being responsible for his lunch was making
me all kind of nervous. He was super pumped
about the Lightening McQueen lunch box...
but would he really eat the food I packed?
I tried really hard to make the day seem super
special. We picked out the blanket to take
for nap time, purchased a travel pillow
with special pillow case, new shirt,
and even a picture of the three of us
for his "cubby".
He was more than happy to let
me take his picture....and I'm not lying
when I say his day went off perfectly.
(Maybe it helps that I'm programmed to set the
bar relatively low).
I dropped him off in the Teddy Bear room
(and was fully expecting some reluctance or even tears)...
but we got him settled, stowed away his
lunch box, did a circle around his classroom,
and waved to each other at the window!
Zero tears! From either of us.
I didn't cry, or worry, or really lament that my baby
was being all kinds of big. I knew he would
love it and it would be just the right place for him.
I was mostly just excited to hear all about it.
We heard from his teachers during nap time...
(they use an app called "Bloomz" to communicate
with parents)....and it seemed like it was going well.
I rolled into the driveway at 5:32...and found him
eating a snack at our kitchen island...cheery as can be...
ready to chat me up! He smiled through telling me about
how he ate his whole lunch, napped on his
cot, enjoyed "circle time" the best, and
reported that he can do the monkey bars all by himself now!
Speaking of lunch...
I had packed some of his lunch in ziplock bags...
(which he handed back to me and said "in case
you want to use them again, mommy") and I knew
we needed a better solution. So, after dinner we went
off to Target. We were able to find two containers
that he can open (a requirement of the school's)
and fit in his bag...
And he was all about me taking his picture in this
field of sunflowers! I couldn't resist :)
I hope school is always something he loves
and looks forward too!
